WhatsApp's new T & Cs come into effect this Saturday: what will happen if you reject them

The new terms of use for encrypted messaging come into effect this Saturday for its two billion users. In case of refusal, the account will gradually become unusable.

D-Day for WhatsApp's 2 billion users: The controversial new terms of service (T & Cs) for encrypted messaging take effect this Saturday, May 15. Now, the app will automatically share personal data with Facebook, its parent company, and allow businesses to chat with customers on messaging.

The decision, announced last January, sparked an uproar, the app having built its reputation on data protection, among other things. Users then decided to join other encrypted messengers like Signal or Telegram. Faced with this outcry, the American firm then decided to push back by three months the deadline to accept these new T & Cs.
